Trying to keep up with eating healthy can be tricky, but for men, it is essential to having an overall healthy sperm count and high testosterone levels. Doctors are urging men to change their diet and saying that having an unhealthy sperm count can also affect a male’s overall health.

What is a Western Diet?

A western diet is characterized also as being the “American diet”, consisting of high intakes of red meat, processed meat, pre-packaged foods, fried foods, eggs, and many other types of food that many people eat every day. For the past thirty years, studies show that humans have taken in a higher intake of fatty, processed foods, along with not getting enough exercise or sleep.

A western diet, also known as the “American diet” consists of unhealthy foods such as burgers, pizza, and other snacks that are unhealthy for a male.

Having a western diet is not only bad for you because you’re not getting the essential healthy, balanced diet you need, but it also causes problems such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and even heart disease. It can also take a toll on your immune system and cause stomach problems as well. Doctors are urging men to get enough fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods in their diet to avoid these problems, and to also limit their intake of fatty foods.

How Can Having a Poor Diet Affect Sperm Quality?

Studies show that men who have a westernized diet have been shown to have a lower sperm quality than men who eat a healthy, balanced meal, consisting of fish, chicken, vegetables, and water. Overall, a man is considered to have a low sperm quality if he has less than 39 million sperm per ejaculation, which can affect his ability to get his partner pregnant.

Having a poor diet can also affect a male’s testosterone levels and lower them drastically. Testosterone is a hormone needed in a male’s body to help increase muscle mass, bone mass, and also helps to boost his sex drive. Not only can having a poor diet affect testosterone levels, but not getting enough exercise, or sleep can decrease your sperm count and testosterone levels, which can inhibit a male’s ability to get a his partner pregnant.

What Can You Do to Ensure a Healthy Sperm Count?

A simple change in your diet is one of the easiest things to do to ensure that you are maintaining a healthy weight and a healthy sperm count and there are many ways that you can improve your diet. For example, opting out chips, or other salty snacks and instead replacing it with vegetables, fruits, or other healthy snacks like yogurt, can help to improve your diet.

A simple change in a male’s diet can help not only help improve his sperm quality, but it can also help to boost his overall health.

Nutritionists also recommend that you have at least one healthy, family meal a day, which helps you focus on making food in your own home instead of eating out, and that even buying a healthy recipe book could help with motivating you to eat healthier. Also, take out any drinks with high sugar contents, such as soda or teas, and replacing it with water has many benefits, and also ensures that you are staying hydrated throughout the day.

With the research that has been done, doctors have proven that diet plays a critical role in a male’s sperm quality and they are urging men to change their diet to avoid health and fertility problems further down the road.
