Ronda Rousey Welcomes First Child with Husband Travis Browne
November 11, 2021
WWE star Ronda Rousey is a mom! Rousey and her husband Travis Browne, who is also an ex-UFC fighter, welcomed their first child together. Rousey and Browne got married in Browne’s native Hawaii in August of 2017. Rousey confirmed via Instagram on September 27, where she shared the exciting news of the newborn’s arrival.
"La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne❤️ ," Rousey wrote, revealing that they named their daughter, La’akea. In the post, Rousey included a set of adorable photos of their baby girl's little hand holding on to mommy and daddy's chests.
Browne, shared the same photos with the caption, "Welcome to this world La'akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne. You are so incredibly loved!"
The couple had announced that 34-year-old Rousey was expecting back in April, when they shared a cute YouTube video to break the news. The video included footage of the couple finding out about her pregnancy and hearing their baby’s heartbeat for the first time.
In their video, Rousey debuted her baby bump as Browne rubbed her belly, "I've been pregnant since January, so four months, woo, baby bump!" she said in the pregnancy announcement. "I can't hide it anymore so it's time to show it off."
Rousey said at the time she'd be sharing more of her journey with fans in the future, including the sex of their baby.
"Thank you everybody for all the well wishes and all the positivity to get to this point," she said. "And yeah, we're really excited for you all to meet [the baby] like we are. ... Baddest baby on the planet, coming to you soon, Sept. 22."
The proud parents-to-be previously announced their daughter's due date was set to be Sept. 22 of this year in the video. This will be the couple’s first child together. Browne shares two children, Kaleo and Keawe, from a previous marriage.
Later in June, the soon-to-be parents revealed the sex of their baby on the way in a YouTube video they uploaded.
"Our gender reveal is finally here," she said in the clip. "We didn't wanna do anything that would set hundreds of acres ablaze or thousands even. Some people are idiots." Referencing the incident involving a California couple whose gender-reveal party sparked a wildfire, a few months ago.
Instead, the couple opted to keep it "Browsey Acres style" (the name of the couple's residence). The video showed an egg hatching before revealing a shot of their sonogram, and the words, "It's a girl!" The short video ended with a few bloopers of the cute couple cradling Rousey's baby bump.
In a July 24 Instagram post, Rousey shared her excitement to meet her daughter.
"I cannot wait to meet this baby-to see what she's like, how's she's uniquely her, how she's like me and her dad. I'm dying to see the color of her eyes," she wrote at the time.
"What's her laugh gunna sound like? When she clears her throat is she gonna do it [the] same way me and my mom do?"
Now that the baby is here, Rousey has been very open about her experiences regarding both her pregnancy and childbirth, "I wish I could say that pregnancy feels amazing, that I've never felt more powerful as a woman. But it feels more like my organs are being crushed by the miracle of life," the former UFC star said.
"I've never felt more exhausted, unmotivated or aware of gravity. Some days I have to lay on my side for hours just to comfortably breathe. There's no break, it's a grind, I'm just trying to get through one day at a time."
She continued, "This baby is gonna be some kind of superhero cause I swear she's eating all my muscles. Has anyone seen my butt? I can't find it."
Rousey explains that the looming task of giving birth isn’t all rainbows and butterflies, admitting that it was “intimidating as hell” as she said she was “not so much afraid of the pain of labor as intimidated by the recovery.”
Rousey gets real as she admits her struggles with recovering from childbirth, explaining, "It's hard not to just hide and wait it out. Thank God for Mr. Browne," she added. "Not a day goes by without him telling me I'm beautiful, sexy, loved, and appreciated. He holds my belly to give me breaks from carrying, gives me bites of everything he's eating, then drags me hissing into the sunlight when I wanna go full Gollum. He makes me proud to put on a swimsuit and show the world what I sometimes want to hide from myself."
At present, Rousey is going through that first-time motherhood experience. She has been very open about her journey as well as the struggles she has faced along the way, explaining that the experience and everything is sucked out of “the Baddest Woman on the Planet.”
Rousey’s honesty about the hardships of first-time pregnancy, childbirth and now motherhood has made the awareness that even a UFC Hall of Famer has struggles with childbirth, making it known that motherhood truly isn't all that easy.
